(Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) Presented by Dr. Barbara B. Tillett for the FRBR Pre-Conference ALA Orlando June 24-25, 2004 FRBR Finally, the FRBR user tasks will influence the RDA elements that are defined as ‘core’ or essential elements. It is difficult to imagine that FRBR can be realised without changes to descriptive standards such as RDA. In recent years standards have emerged concerning the description of information resources on the Internet. This thesis surveys several standards: the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI), the Warwick Framework and the Resource Description Framework (RDF), and the Digital Object Identifier (DOI). RDA Reference element sets include: an element set of classes representing the RDA entities: Agent, Collective Agent, Expression, Item, Manifestation, Person, and Work, taken from the IFLA Library Reference Model (LRM). Corporate Body and Family, taken from the previous Functional Requirements for Authority Data (FRAD). FRBR and FRAD models, so one option that was under considera-tion for an RDA namespace was to refer to IFLA FRBR and FRAD namespaces where possible. And so the Review Group decided to start a new project, Namespaces for FRBR entities/elements in RDF, with the specific task being “to define appropriate namespaces for FRBR's main impact was that it provided a mental model of the bibliographic universe that reflects a conceptual view of the elements of descriptive cataloging.

AACR2 provided three levels of bibliographic description. The first level, also known as minimal-level cataloging, contains, at least, the elements that basically identify the resource without providing and detailed description.

Robin Fay LibraryScope RDA includes new elements (MARC fields) to better categorize media and other types of materials data elements to make optional those that are also optional in FRBR. In no case is a data element mandatory in FRBR but optional in the ISBD. In the ISBD, national bibliographic agencies are called upon to "prepare the definitive description containing all the mandatory elements set out in the ISBD insofar as the information (2012). FRBR includes a conceptual model of entities and relationships and attributes, identifies specific user tasks (Find, Identify, Select, and Obtain) that bibliographic records are intended to fulfill, and recommends a set of elements for inclusion in national bibliographic This is the element set of native RDF classes and properties described in the Functional Requirements for Authority Data model.

The FRBR model of bibliographic data is the most radical change to library catalog thinking since Panizzi developed his ninety-one rules for the British Museum Catalog. The model presented by FRBR is complex, but it is made even FRBR and RDA RDA Training for Kentucky Public Libraries. FRBR Entities—. Group 1 Entities (What it is) Works, Expressions, Manifestations, and Items Group 2 Entities (Who did it) Persons, Corporate Bodies, Families Group 3 Entities (What it’s about) Concept, Place, Event, Object, plus all Group 1 & 2 Entities. The RDA element set has been mapped to FRBR. RDA elements and relationships inherit the value assigned to FRBR attributes and relationships.
